Memories of 2007 Mini Reunion Golf Outing
Thursday, March 15, 2007
By Clyde J. Arnold, Jr.
I left Memphis a day early to attend the second mini-reunion golf outing. On
the way to Hope I stopped and spent the night with Darryl and Joyce Messer
in Little Rock. Joyce went to church while Darryl and I went out to eat
catfish at a cafe near their new home. Great meal and great fellowship.
Left L.R. about nine Thursday morning and about eleven o'clock called
Perry and he advised that the group was arriving then at the Hope Country
Club for their 2nd planned golf match (I call it "cow pasture pool" as I have
never played golf.)
According to Perry all had arrived except Dean Roach aka Seaweed and
they were expecting him within the hour which would have been around
noon. Those attending and playing were Don Fuller, Buddy Mosley, and
Joel Osborn (all HHS ‘54 classmates) The Easterlings (Alvin, JamUp, and
Perry and, of course, Jug (Donnell Bagley) and Seaweed. I arrived about 1
p.m. and I am sure they had told a lot of whoppers by then and were on the
15th green when I finally located them.
I had asked some young person at the club house where they were. She said
there were some old guys playing in a large group on the back nine. She
could not believe that the average age was about seventy (70) years. The
name "cow pasture pool" was a good fit for this group as they were hitting
the golf ball all over the place, (rough) but appeared to be having a great
time trying to all out lie (pun) each other and seemed to be doing a great job
of it. <g>
I stayed only for the end of the first nine holes and had a drink with them
before they started the front nine. I was invited to a cook-out later that
evening at Dean's trailer at about 6 p.m. but when I arrived they were just
finishing up the golf match. They never said who won or shot the lowest
score but did not seem to care.
It was good seeing the ‘54 class members (Joel, Buddy and Don) A couple
of them I had not seen since 1953. Buddy Mosley is a brother of Pat who
was in our class. He got us up to date on Pat‘s health. He reminded me
that Pat and I had served in the Army together and Pat had assisted me in
carrying my gear on board ship at Enchont Bay, Korea, in April 1957. Pat
was operating a boat in Enchont Bay and this allowed him to visit with me
for a short time as I was leaving Korea and he had just arrived. I also saw
Joe Don Willis (‘54) play football in Korea in 1956. Great memories!
That night I helped Dean set up his trailer and watched him get ready for the
meal. He did a great job and you could tell he knew what he was doing.
Most of the people did not arrive until about 8 p.m. and it ended about 10:
30
p.m. Two of the players did not come so Pat Easterling and I took their
places and enjoyed a great meal and a lot of fun/fellowship and a few lies
<g>. Dean puts on a great spread. We all enjoyed it very much.

P.S. Pat Roach came down the next day and joined the rest of us at the Sat.
evening get together. I had a great visit with them too at the Western
Sizzling Saturday after I had attended the Jonquil Festival in Washington
with Joyce and Darryl Messer. The Roaches were sitting with her sister
and
brother-in-law eating their noon meal.

March 22 2007
On Thursday, March 17th there was a gathering of Eagles at Hope Country
Club. Never mind they had lost most of their feathers, their sense of humor
was intact. Along with the official photographer, Jimmy (Jam-up)
Easterling, several rolls of duct tape, lots of band-aids, and other means of
support they turned back the clock and set off for the first tee. What followed
could best be called a blast from the past. Keeping score was impossible
because no one could remember how many strokes they took. Plus, it’s hard
to count when you’re laughing that hard.
The above will become clearer with a list of the players. (Players?)
Hopefully the list will be longer next year.
And the players are:
Perry Easterling
Dean (Seaweed) Roach
Guy (Buddy) Mosley
Joel (Ex Deleted) Osburn
Don (Unknown) Fuller
Alvin (Brother of Perry and Jam-up Easterling)
Donnell (Jug) Bagley
Thanks to Alvin for setting everything up. God willing we will do it again
next year.
