Ronald Wayne and Nell Cassidy Butler
I had enough snow to last me a lifetime!
In 1993 we became
the proud
grandparents of
beautiful twin
girls--Ashley and
Heather. (Their
parents, our
daughter Kay and her
husband Craig
Stensgard, were
pretty proud too!!!)
A few years
later they
were joined
by a little
sister, Kelly.
As for our observance of our fiftieth, it was a quiet family celebration.
Our children had managed to surprise us with a really nice party on our 25th
Anniversary. We suspected something of that sort may be in the works for
the 50th and since Ron has had some serious health problems the last few
years, we discouraged that. We didn't really want there to be an Anniversary
party for us and us not be able to attend!

THROUGH
THE
YEARS
W I TH THE
BUTLERS
Ron and I were married at my parents' home in Hope on Friday, December 28,
1956 .We met on a blind date one week after I arrived in Gallup, New Mexico,
where I had accepted a teaching job in the high school. I had graduated from
Henderson State Teachers' College on August 3 and left for Gallup on August
14. Ron had recently been discharged after four years in the Air Force and
was living at home, planning to return to college in January.
Ron delayed his return to college so that I could finish the school year. In
May of 1957 we moved from Gallup to Las Cruces, New Mexico, where Ron
completed his education at New Mexico A & M, majoring in Mechanical
Engineering. I worked on the campus in the Physical Science Laboratory.
Our daughter, Brenda Kay, was born in Las Cruces.
Thanksgiving 1956
Upon Ron's graduation in January
of 1960, he accepted a job with
Western Electric in Omaha,
Nebraska, and worked for that
company until his retirement in
1988. We were in Nebraska
for a little over six years. Our three
sons, David Alan, Michael Scott,
and Stephen Brian, were born there.
When Western Electric built a plant in Shreveport and Ron was transferred
there, it was like coming home.
Ron had popped the
question by
Thanksgiving and we
were planning our
wedding
Ronald Wayne Butler, 80, passed to eternal life on Saturday, July 2, 2011, after a
long and courageous battle with cancer. Ron was born to Charles and Selma
Hellerick Butler in 1931, in Lincoln, Nebraska. His family relocated to Durango,
Colorado and then to Gallup, New Mexico, where he grew up.
Ron served four years in the Air Force. He was a graduate of New Mexico A&M in
Las Cruces, New Mexico. He worked as a mechanical engineer and retired from
Western Electric/AT&T in 1988, then operated a small vending business for the
next 14 years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Ida Nell Cassidy
Butler and one brother, Robert Butler and wife Dona of Fountain Hills, AZ; one
daughter, Brenda Kay Stensgard and husband Craig of Denton, TX; three sons,
David Alan Butler and Michael Scott Butler of Frierson, LA and Stephen Brian
Butler and wife Andrea Butler of Stonewall, LA; and three grandchildren, Ashley,
Heather and Kelly Stensgard of Denton, TX; two step-grandsons, Edward Breaux,
Jr. and wife, Laurie and Christopher Breaux; and one step great-grandson, Tommy
